Louis Oosthuizen didn’t drop a shot on Thursday on his way to an opening eight-under-par 62 in the first round of the Asian Tour’s Link Hong Kong Open at Hong Kong Golf Club in Deep Water Bay, Hong Kong.
Oosthuizen made two birdies on the opening two holes, and didn’t pick up another stroke until after the turn. But he made his good play count with six birdies on the way home, including three in a row on the final three holes.
At eight-under, he was in a share of third, two strokes off the lead which was held at 10-under-par by fellow-LIV golfer Tom McKibbin of Northern Ireland, who also had eight birdies on his card, but he added an eagle-three on the third.
McKibbin led by one from Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond, and Oosthuizen shared third with another Thai golfer, Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Belgium’s Thomas Pieters. Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent was amongst five players in a share of sixth on seven-under-par.
South Africa’s Ian Snyman opened with a six-under 64 for a share of 11th, while Kieran Vincent of Zimbabwe had a first round of four-under-par for a share of 28th. Charl Schwartzel opened with a three-under-par 67, and Jaco Ahlers was on two-under 68.
Jbe’ Kruger battled to a one-over 71 and was down in a share of 114th.
