Louis Oosthuizen stayed in touch with the lead on Friday when he carded a four-under-par 66 in the second round of the Asian Tour’s Link Hong Kong Open at Hong Kong Golf Club in Deep Water Bay, Hong Kong.
This time round, in contrast with his flawless opening 62, he made two bogeys. He started with a birdie on his first hole of the day, the 11th, and picked up two more on 13 and 17. But he dropped a shot on the first after he moved on to the front nine. He made two more birdies on three and four, and dropped his second shot on the fifth. He made his final birdie for the round on the seventh.
He moved to 12-under-par through 36 holes for the tournament, and that put him in a share of fifth. He was three strokes behind the leader, Tom McKibbin of Northern Ireland. McKibbin added a bogey-free five-under 65 to his opening 60 as he moved to 15-under and a two-stroke lead over American Peter Uihlein, and the Thai duo of Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Jazz Janewattananond.
Zimbabwe’s Kieran Vincent pieced together one of the low rounds of the day, with his bogey-free seven-under 63 lifting him to 11-under through halfway and a share of eighth. His brother Scott had a two-under 68 and moved to a share of 15th on nine-under.
Charl Schwartzel had a four-under 66 to head into the weekend in a share of 27th on seven-under-par together with, amongst others, Ian Snyman, who had a second round of 69.
Dean Burmester, Jaco Ahlers and Jbe’ Kruger missed the cut.
