Graham van der Merwe carded a four-under-par 67 on Wednesday to seal a wire-to-wire victory in the Bushveld Tour’s Srixon Series #1 at Centurion Country Club.
It was a triumph founded on a sparkling bogey-free opening round of seven-under-par 64, which included an eagle and five birdies. He seemed as if he was never going to lose after he holed out his approach on the par-four ninth, and his second-round of one-under 70 kept him in front.
In the final round, he bogeyed the second hole, but that was the only minor flutter of uncertainty on that final tour of the course. He made five birdies on his way to a commanding four-stroke margin of victory.
In second were Tyrone Ryan, who had rounds of 69-69-67, and amateur Dylan Kane, who went 71-65-69. That pair on eight-under for the 54 holes were a further four clear of Jason Froneman in fourth, while Haydn Porteous was fifth on three-under.
