Despite a double-bogey six on the 16th hole on Friday, Garrick Higgo carded a five-under-par 66 in the second round of the European Tour’s Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Open at Aphrodite Hills Resort in Paphos, Cyprus.
Together with his opening tally of three-under, his halfway total of eight-under moved him into a share of 12th place behind leaders Jamie Donaldson and Marcus Armitage, both of whom were still on the course as play in the second round was suspended for darkness.
Higgo started quietly enough with three consecutive pars, making the first of five birdies on the day on the fourth. Gains on six, seven and nine saw him reach the turn in 32, and then he made an eagle three on the 10th. He gave away those two strokes with his double on 16, but puled something back with a closing birdie on 18.
Wilco Nienaber signed for a four-under 67 to take up a position on seven-under-par at the halfway mark, while Louis de Jager made a second consecutive 68 to be at six-under. Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent was also on six-under after also carding 68.
Haydn Porteous was one stroke further back on five-under after adding a 68 to his opening 69. But Bryce Easton looks likely to miss the projected cut after a second-round 69 took him to two-under for the tournament.
Up ahead, Donaldson was on the final hole when play was halted, having made six birdies and one bogey over the first 17, while Englishman Armitage had mixed an eagle with five birdies and a solitary bogey in his first 15 holes to join the Welshman at the summit.
