Erik van Rooyen overcame a double-bogey on Sunday to climb 17 places into a share of 30th after the final round of the PGA Tour’s Fortinet Championship at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, California.
After making three birdies on his front nine, Van Rooyen appeared to shank his third to the ninth green and then left his fourth in the fringe before finally getting up and down. He dropped another shot on the 13th, but closed with birdies on 15 and 16 for a two-under-par 70.
He was on seven-under-par for the week, 14 strokes behind the winner, Sahith Theegala of the United States. Theegala won by two from SH Kim of Korea who finished in 19-under-par. Van Rooyenn shared 30th with 14 other players.
