Hennie du Plessis had one of his best weeks ever on the Official World Golf Ranking as he climbed back inside the world’s top 200 with his share of 10th at the BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour.
His performance gave him a haul of 4.88778 points on the byzantine OWGR system, the ninth-best bag of his career so far behind his 12.80000 for his 2021 third-place finish in the South African Open Championship. It lifted him to 192nd, inside the top 200 again for the first time since May this year.
The benefit of performing so well in such a prestigious tournament in the company of a substantial number of the world’s top 50 players was significant, and he leapfrogged Oliver Bekker, Ockie Strydom and Erik van Rooyen on the world listings to become South Africa’s sixth-best player according to that list.
Also getting a nice little bump from his performance in the same tournament was Louis de Jager, up 16 places to on the verge of the world’s top 300 in 308th. Zander Lombard was up two to 260th after his week at Wentworth too.
Thriston Lawrence, the reigning South African Open champion, was down two spots after missing the cut at Wentworth. He remains South Africa’s top-ranked player at 85th on the OWGR list.
