It was an agonising finish for Kaleigh Telfer on Saturday as she made a double-bogey on the second-last hole of the Epson Tour Championship on the Jones Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Although she regained those lost stroked with a closing eagle on the 18th to finish in a share of second on 21-under-par, she was left to wonder what might have happened had she just made par on the par-three 17th to stay at 21-under-par at that point.
The eventual winner, Auston Kim of the United States was on 22-under at the same stage, and her closing birdie took her two clear of Telfer and her joint runner-up, Gurleen Kaur of the United States.
Although the official figures were not available on the Epson Tour website at the time of writing, Telfer’s $20,578 for her share of second should catapult her from her 42nd place on the Race to the Card ranking ahead of the tournament to inside the top 30 – and perhaps even the top 25. Finishing inside the top 35 will make sure she will be awarded an exemption into LPGA Q-Series, one that will see her substantial entry fee paid by Seiko Epson Corporation.
