Ian Snyman didn’t drop a shot on Thursday in his first round as he carded an eight-under-par 63 to be in a share of third in the Asian Tour’s SJM Macao Open at Macau Golf and Country Club, Macau, China.

The first round was led by Min Woo Lee of Australia, who also made eight birdies. He also had an eagle and a bogey which edged him clear of Snyman and New Zealand’s Ben Campbell. Lee shared the lead with veteran Scotsman David Drysdale, who made nine birdies to hit the front.

Snyman had a wonderful start to his round with successive birdies on the first two holes. He picked up two more shots with birdies on four and six, before turning in 29 with two more successive birdies on eight and nine. There were only two more birdies for him on his homeward nine to conclude a great start to the tournament.

Jbe’ Kruger carded an opening one-under-par 70 to be in a share of 65th, together with, amongst others, MJ Viljoen.

Neil Schietekat battled to a five-over-par 76.
