Deon Germishuys carded an opening five-under-par 66 on Thursday to be in a share of sixth after the first round of the DP World Tour’s acciona Open de España at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid in Spain.
Germishuys made six birdies and a bogey and he was three shots off the lead which was held by Matthieu Pavon of France who made an eagle, seven birdies and a bogey for his eight-under 63. Pavon led by one from Wil Besseling of the Netherlands, with Portugal’s Lorenzo Figueiredo, Mike Lorenzo-Vera of France and England’s Eddie Pepperell in third on six-under.
Germishuys shared sixth with 10 other players, including compatriot Zander Lombard, who also had six birdies and a bogey in his five-under 66.
Wilco Nienaber, Oliver Bekker and Daniel van Tonder were all in a share of 34th on two-under-par, while Louis de Jager and Thomas Aiken were on one-under in a share of 52nd.
Bryce Easton and Thriston Lawrence were in a share of 89th on one-over, and Hennie du Plessis and JC Ritchie were on two-over in a share of 107th. Justin Walters battled to four-over and was in a share of 127th.
