Lejan Lewthwaite is going in search of a second Ladies European Tour Access Series title after carding a second successive two-under-par 70 on Thursday in the second round of the Calatayud Ladies Open in Spain.

Lewthwaite made five birdies and three bogeys to move to four-under-par ahead of the final round, She was two strokes behind the leader, Hannah Screen of England. Screen is chasing her first LETAS title, while Lewthwaite shared second with Verena Gimmy of Germany, Emie Peronnin of France, and Romy Meekers of the Netherlands.

Hungry for another win this season, Lewthwaite was happy she managed to put herself in contention. “The conditions are not that easy this week,” she said. “The weather will play a factor tomorrow as well but I’m feeling good.”

Lewthwaite who plays between the LET and LET Access won the Hauts de France Pas de Calais Open a month ago and has had three top-25s elsewhere this year.

“I don’t think the conditions will improve so tomorrow I need to have patience and we’ll see what happens out there.”

It’s been a turbulent year for the South African who was nearly forced to quit the sport after sponsorship pulled out in February, yet the 32-year-old has fought her way back.

“I can’t remember ever going into a last round in the lead. I’ve always come from behind a little bit which is nice. It takes a bit of the pressure off. It’s a position I’m used to, and I will just try to do the same thing.”
