Jaco Ahlers is the only South African trying his hand at the LIV Golf Promotions at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and he progressed to the second round on Friday with an opening four-under-par 68.
His six birdies and two bogeys put him in a share of 10th, four strokes behind New Zealand’s Kerry Mountcastle. Seungsu Han of Korea was second, with seven players in a share of third on five-under-par.
The way the promotions event works is, after round one, which is 18 holes stroke play, players in the top 20 positions qualify for round two. The qualifiers from round one take on up to 50 new players in 18 holes of stroke play. The top 20 players from this round qualify for round three. The 20 qualifiers from round two play 36 holes across two rounds. Scores carry from round three to round four.
Top three players at the end of round four are promoted to LIV Golf.
