Ernie Els closed with a level-par 72 on Saturday to finish in a share of 12th after the final round of the PGA Tour Champions Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai Golf Course in Ka’upulehu-Kona, Hawaii.

It was the worst round of what was otherwise a good week for Els in the opening tournament of the 2024 season on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, as he made an eagle, a birdie, a bogey and a double-bogey to slip eight places down the leaderboard and outside the top 10. He had opened with rounds of 66 and 67.

The tournament was won by the prolific Steven Alker of New Zealand, who carded his second-successive nine-under 63 to trump Harrison Frazar of the United States. The American found his seven-under 65 left him four shots off the winning total of 25-under-par. Steven Stricker and David Toms were third and fourth on 20-under and 17-under respectively.
