Erik van Rooyen had two bogeys late in his round on Friday, but still managed to sign for a two-under-par 70 in the second round of the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am at Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California.

Van Rooyen had a three-under on the other course on which the tournament is being played, Pebble Beach Golf Links, but his second round meant he dropped nine places on the leaderboard into a share of 23rd. At five-under, he was six strokes off the lead which was shared by world number one Scottie Scheffler of the United States, rookie Swede Ludvig Aberg, and the leader of the first round, Thomas Detry of Belgium. They were one clear of American Patrick Cantlay who was on 10-under-par.

Also slipping nine places into a share of 23rd with his countryman was Christiaan Bezuidenhout. He too had a 70 at Spyglass Hill, and he too made five birdies and three bogeys.

It’s going to be a tough weekend: There appears to be no dodging a big storm due to arrive on the weekend, the worst of the rain and wind on Sunday.
