Ockie Strydom rounded out a solid week on Sunday with a closing one-under-par 71 in the DP World Tour’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club in Doha, Qatar.
The two-time DP World Tour winner started turning his indifferent form around with a share of fourth in last week’s tournament in the Middle East, and his share of 16th this time was a result of all four rounds being under par. At six-under for the tournament, he was eight shots behind the winner, Rikuya Hoshino of Japan. Hoshino closed with a four-under 68 to pip Ugo Coussaud of France by one shot.
Strydom made five birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey in his round, and he shared 16th with seven other players, including compatriot Zander Lombard. Lombard also closed with a one-under 71, but was just unable to find the spark which saw him finish runner-up last week, in the top 10 in the middle of January, and seemingly be in contention every week since then.
Jayden Schaper finished with a level-par 72 for a share of 24th on five-under, while Hennie du Plessis and Jacques Kruyswijk were a shot further back in a share of 27th on four-under. Jaco Prinsloo had a level-par closing round for a share of 33rd on three-under, while Louis de Jager battled to a 76 to finish one-under in a share of 49th, together with Thriston Lawrence, who had a closing 74.
Casey Jarvis finished in a share of 65th after a closing 76 left him two-over for the tournament.
