Deon Germishuys played himself into contention on Friday with a five-under-par 66 in the second round of the DP World Tour’s Magical Kenya Open at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, Kenya.
His eagle, four birdies and a bogey lifted him into a share of eighth ahead of the weekend, just two shots off the lead. Three players shared top spot on seven-under – Finn Tapio Pulkannen, Connor Syme of Scotland and Darius van Driel of the Netherlands. They were one clear of four players on six-under.
Germishuys started his round on the 10th, and quickly picked up two birdies in his first three holes. He dropped his only shot on the 13th, and made two more birdies ahead of the turn. He picked up his eagle on the par-five fourth.
In a share of seventh with him was compatriot Louis de Jager, who had a four-under-par 67 in the second round.
One shot back in a share of 16th was Ryan van Velzen, who added a level-par 71 to his total to ne at four-under at the halfway mark. Pieter Moolman also had a level-par 71 to be at three-under and in a share of 22nd, together with Jacques Kruyswijk, who signed for a two-under 69.
Thriston Lawrence had a one-under 70 to be two-under for the tournament and in a share of 37th. Casey Jarvis and Thomas Aiken were on one-under in a share of 45th.
Dylan Frittelli, Wilco Nienaber, Dylan Mostert, Oliver Bekker, Justin Walters and Justin Harding all missed the cut.
