Two late bogeys didn’t stop Casandra Alexander finishing strongly on Saturday in the final round of the Ladies European Tour’s Lalla Meryem Cup at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Rabat, Morocco as she signed for a five-under-par 68.
It was her best round of the 54-hole tournament as she started out with a four-over 77 and followed it with a two-under-par 71. That put her at three-under for the week and in a share of 13th place. She was 10 shots behind the winner, Bronte Law of England, who closed with a nine-under 64 to beat France’s Pauline Roissin-Bouchard by three shots.
Alexander started with three birdies in her first four holes, and reached the turn without dropping a shot. Four birdies in the first five holes after the turn had her charging, but she made bogey on 15 and on 16 to slip down the leaderboard.
Nicole Garcia rounded out a week that started with two rounds of level-par 73 with a closing one-under 72 for a share of 24th.
Cara Gorlei battled her way to a four-over 77 to finish four-over for the tournament in a share of 49th.
Law came from behind to clinch a three-shot victory on a low scoring final day. Speaking about her whirlwind final day, Law who won Q School in 2018 in Morocco said: “I think I should come back to Morocco more often, I’m very happy to come back and win. This win feels a little bit surreal. I held out on 14 from the fairway for an eagle and at that moment I thought there was a chance if I kept making birdies. That was the turning point.”
