Charl Schwartzel stayed right in the hunt on Saturday with a second-round four-under-par 66 in LIV Golf Jeddah at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia.

His five birdies and a bogey put him in second place on his own on 11-under-par. He was two shots behind a man who is arguably the hottest player on earth right now, Joaquin Niemann of Chile. Niemann had a second round of six-under 64 to start to distance himself from the rest of the 54-man field.

Schwartzel started his round on the first in the shotgun start, and made a birdie on the second. He made his only bogey on the eighth, but he birdied the ninth and then made four gains on the homeward nine.

Just one shot behind him in a share of third was his Stinger GC team captain and fellow-major winner, Louis Oosthuizen. Oosthuizen also carded a four-under 66, and his was bogey-free.

Branden Grace had an eagle early in his round on his first hole, the fifth, and he signed for a five-under-par 65. He moved to eight-under and a share of ninth. Just one shot back on seven-under after a three-under 67 was Dean Burmester.

Stinger GC hit 29-under-par in the team contest to open up a seven-stroke lead over Brooks Koepka’s Smash GC and Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII.
