Kaleigh Telfer reeled off four birdies in a row on her back nine on Sunday to fight her way to a closing on-under-par 70 in the final round of the Epson Tour’s IOA Golf Classic presented by LPT Realty at Alaqua Country Club in Longwood, Florida.
After an opening 69, she battled to a second-round two-over 73 in the second round of the 54-hole tournament, and he great homeward run helped her counteract the effects of a double-bogey and four bogeys in her final round. She made three birdies on the front nine in the final round to move to one-under for the tournament and a share of 15th place.
The tournament was won by Taiwan’s Jessica Peng, who closed with a four-under-par 67, which relegated Lindsey McCurdy of the United States to second. McCurdy closed with a one-over 72 to slip to 10-under, one shot behind Peng.
Telfer came close to earning her LPGA Tour card last season, with 14 cuts made in 17 starts on the Epson Tour, with four top-10 finishes including a share of second in the Epson Tour Championship. She just missed out on promotion through her ranking, and also missed out from Q-School.
She now moves to 36th place on the Race for the Card after the second tournament of the season.
