Dean Burmester kept himself in with a shot at the title when he carded a second round of three-under-par 69 on Saturday in the LIV Golf event in Miami at Trump National Doral, Miami, Florida.

He opened with a four-under-par 68 to be in a share of fourth place, one shot behind a three-way share of the lead held by Peter Uihlein and Talor Gooch of the United States, and Spain’s Sergio Garcia.

Starting his second round on the second hole in the shotgun start used by LIV Golf, he made bogey on the third. But the rest of his round was without blemish as he made birdies on seven, eight, 11 and 12.

At seven-under for the tournament ahead of the final round in the 54-hole event, he was two shots off the lead which was occupied by Garcia at nine-under after the former Masters champion signed for a four-under 68. Burmester was in a share of second with Gooch, Matthew Wolff of the United States and England’s Tyrell Hatton.

One shot further back on six-under in a share of sixth after a second round of four-under 68 was Burmester’s Stinger GC team captain, Louis Oosthuizen.

The all-South African team, which also includes Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace, was in third place on 13-under. In the lead was Legion XIII, spearheaded by current Masters champion Jon Rahm.
