Christiaan Bezuidenhout dropped a shot on his first hole on Thursday but he pulled things back to sign for a first-round three-under-par 68 in the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Bezuidenhout three-putted from just inside 40 feet on the par-four first, and it was his putting which was perhaps a little disappointing as he took 31 of them in his first round. However, at three-under, he was in a share of 17th, five strokes off the lead which was shared by American JT Poston.
Poston had a two-stroke edge over Seamus Power of Ireland and Collin Morikawa of the United States. There were six players on five-under, including last week’s Masters runner-up Ludvig Aberg of Sweden. The champion from Augusta National Scottie Scheffler, opened with a two-under-par 69 for a share of 26th.
Erik van Rooyen opened with a one-over-par 72 to be in a share of 57th.
