Winning is hard, as Casey Jarvis discovered on Sunday when he made five bogeys on his front nine to blow a chance he had to take his maiden DP World Tour title in the ISPS HANDA-Championship in Gotemba, Japan.
Starting the day with a slender lead at 13-under-par, Jarvis led going into the final 18 holes, but bogeys on three, five, six, seven and nine put paid to his chances. He made birdie on 18 to give himself a little consolation as he finished in a share of 18th on nine-over-par.
The tournament was won by Yuto Katsuragawa of Japan, who closed with a superb seven-under 63 to reach 17-under and win by three from Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout, playing on his sponsor’s invitation, closed with a five-under 65 to be one of four players in a share of third on 12-under-par.
Brandon Stone was in a share of 18th with Jarvis after his closing four-under 66, while Jacques Kruyswijk and Zander Lombard were in a share of 36th on six-under after rounds of level-par and four-under respectively. Shaun Norris was a shot back in a share of 42nd after his final round of three-over 73.
