Brandon Stone had the round of the day on Friday when he carded an eight-under-par 64 in the second round of the DP World Tour’s Volvo China Open at Hidden Grace Golf Club in Shenzhen.

It was a bogey-free effort from Stone, who raced up the leaderboard into a share of 25th at six-under-par after his disappointing opening round of two-over. He was 10 shots off the lead which was held by Sebastian Soderberg of Sweden, who added a seven-under 65 to his opening nine-under.

Soderberg led by three from England’s Paul Waring, with Guido Migliozzi lying third at the halfway mark at 12-under-par.

Stone was not the leading South African after his fine second round: Zander Lombard added a second-round 68 to his opening 66 to remain in a share of seventh heading into the weekend. While he was bogey-free in his opening round, he made two bogeys to offset the six birdies he made in the second round.

Casey Jarvis made it to the weekend after he carded a one-over 73 in the second round to slip to a share of 32nd at five-under-par. Dylan Frittelli also made the cut with a second successive two-under 70 taking him to a share of 42nd.

Ockie Strydom, Jacques Kruyswijk and Louis de Jager missed the cut after rounds of 73, 71 and 77 respectively.
