Robin Williams made two bogeys on his front nine on Thursday, but ended up in a share of 13th on three-under-par 69 after the first round of the Challenge Tour’s Danish Golf Challenge at Odense Eventyr Golf in Odense, Denmark.
Williams, who will have full DP World Tour status from the start of the 2025 season thanks to his second-place finish on the 2023-24 Order of Merit on the Sunshine Tour, started his round on the 10th and picked up his first birdie on the 12th. He dropped shots on the 14th and 16th, but he birdied 15 and 18 to turn in one-under-par 35.
He didn’t drop another shot on his way home, making birdies on four and five. He was three shots off the lead which was shared the Scandinavian trio of Andreas Halvorsen of Norway and Iceland’s Magnus Haraldur and Gudmundur Kristjansson. They led by one from Marc Hammer of Germany, Peter Launer Baek of Denmark and Scotland’s Ryan Lumsden.
Oliver Bekker closed with a triple-bogey eight on the 18th to slip to two-over for his opening round in a share of 20th. Wilco Nienaber and Deon Germishuys were on one-under in a share of 31st, while Dylan Naidoo and Louis Albertse opened with level-par 72s for a share of 51st.
Justin Walters had a one-over 73 to start with, and Bryce Easton and Tristen Strydom were on six-over. Albert Venter opened with an eight-over 80, while Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Follett-Smith had a five-over 77.
