Christiaan Bezuidenhout carded a two-over-par 72 on Saturday in the third round of the 124th US Open being played at Pinehurst No 2 in North Carolina.

That took him to five-over for the championship and a share of 32nd. He was 12 strokes off the lead which was held by Bryson DeChambeau at seven-under.

Bezuidenhout made two birdie and four bogeys in his third round, to go with his opening 72 and his second round of one-over-par 71. There were only eight players in the field who were under par after the third round.

DeChambeau had a three-stroke lead over Matthieu Pavon of France, Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and fellow-American Patrick Cantlay. Hideki Matsuyama of Japan and Ludvig Åberg of Sweden were in a share of fifth on two-under, while Tyrrell Hatton of England and Tony Finau of the US shared seventh on one-under.

Dean Burmester was the other South African to make the cut. He had a third round of six-over-par to move to a share of 65th on 11-over-par.
