Paula Reto closed with a two-under-par 70 on Sunday to pull off a top-15 finish in the LPGA Tour’s Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give at Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

In her best finish in 12 tournaments in the current LPGA Tour season, she made three birdies in the first 10 holes, but dropped shots on 11 and 16 hampered her progress. She picked up a final birdie on the 18th to finish on 11-under-par for the tournament.

In the end, she was just five strokes outside the three-way play-off between Americans Lilia Vu and Lexi Thompson and Grace King of Australia.

Vu won, spoiling Thompson’s bid for her first victory in five years. Playing for the first time since the Ford Championship in late March in Arizona, Vu beat Thompson and third-round leader Kim with a five-foot birdie putt on the third extra hole – the par-five fourth.

A former number one player and double major winner last year, Vu won for the fifth time on the LPGA Tour.

Reto’s performance lifted her nine places to 88th in the Race to CME Globe rankings on the Tour, and gave her a boost ahead of the major championship looming in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship which begins on Thursday at Sahalee outside Seattle.

Ashleigh Buhai closed with a three-over-par 75 to finish in a share of 73rd on one-over for the tournament.
