Lejan Lewthwaite was able to hang in on Friday after a second round of one-under-par 71 in the Ladies European Tour’s Access Series event, the Santander Golf Tour-AVILA at Naturavila Golf in Avila, Spain.
Lewthwaite made four birdies and three bogeys to move to five-under-par for the tournament and a share of 17th. She was seven strokes off the lead.
Up ahead, 18-year-old Helen Briem fired the best round of her life of 10-under-par 62 to hold a one-shot lead heading into the final day. The German amateur, who shot two-under-par yesterday, played phenomenally to card one bogey, four pars and 11 birdies to equal LETAS’ lowest 18-hole score. A record shared with German player Anne van Dam and France’s Ariane Provot.
One stroke behind Briem was Swedish professional Kajsa Arwefjall, who backed up her first round of 67 by going one stroke lower. England’s Megan Dennis had two great rounds of 68 and 66 to head into the final day in Avila on 10-under-par.
