Garrick Higgo made two eagles on Friday on his way to a bogey-free eight-under-par 64 in the second round of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour co-sanctioned ISCO Championship on the Championship Course at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

It’s been a while since the Stellenbosch left-hander has been in contention as he tries to overcome the aftereffects of injury, and this round would have given him the confidence that things are starting to turn for the good for him.

Together with his opening five-under 67, Higgo moved to 13-under for the tournament through 36 holes, and he was in a share of fifth place. He was just three shots off the lead which was held by Pierceson Coody, who added to his superb opening 61 with a five-under 67.

Coody was two clear of Germany’s Matthis Besard, Filippino Rico Hoey and American Chez Reavie. Higgo shared fifth with five other players.

Higgo’s eagles came on the fifth and the 15th. On the fifth, he hit an approach to inside 10 feet and made the putt, and on the 15th, he made a 33-footer for the double-gain. He added four birdies to his haul, and set himself up for a tilt at the title over the weekend.

Jacques Kruyswijk kept himself in the hunt too, with a second round of five-under-par 67 lifting him to a share of 15th at the halfway mark. At 11-under, he’s just five strokes back, and seeming to be warming to his task ahead of the weekend.

MJ Daffue made the cut with a second-round 67 moving him to a share of 49th on eight-under-par. That score marked where the cut fell, and Casey Jarvis, Thomas Aiken and Jayden Schaper all missed out on the weekend despite solid performances.
