A pair of late bogeys on Saturday would have frustrated Jacques Kruyswijk, but he still heads into the final round of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour co-sanctioned ISCO Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky inside the top 10.
Kruyswijk signed for a five-under-par 67 in the third round to move to 16-under for the tournament. That put him in a share of ninth, four strokes off the lead. Up front, it was Pierceson Coody of the United States at 20-under after a third round of four-under 68.
Coody was a shot ahead of England’s Harry Hall and Filippino Rico Hoey. There were three players on 18-under and two on 17-under. Kruyswijk shared ninth with six other players.
Kruyswijk had a superb opening nine in the third round, starting his scoring with an eagle on the fifth where he made a 33-footer for his three. He followed that with three consecutive birdies on six, seven and eight to turn in five-under. He picked up another shot on the 11th as it seemed he might challenge for the lead.
But he pushed his approach left on the 12th, and was unable to get up and down on that par-four for par. His drive on 13 was into the right rough, and he couldn’t reach the green from there on that par-four. He couldn’t get up and down from just inside 30 yards and dropped a second shot.
He got things back on track with a birdie on 15, and he heads into the final round with a real sense of being able to challenge for the title.
MJ Daffue had a two-under 70 in the third round to move to 10-under and a share of 51st, while Garrick Higgo slipped to a three-over 75 and was with Daffue on 10-under.
