In the modified stableford format of the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship, an early double-bogey was not too much of a problem for Jayden Schaper as he racked up 11 points for the second round at the Old Greenwood course at Tahoe Mountain Club in Truckee, California.

It was a second-successive haul of 11 for Schaper, and, at 22 points, he was in a share of eighth. With two points for each birdie, minus one for bogeys and minus three for double or worse, his six on the par-four second was not a good start. But with aggressive play being encouraged, three birdies and two bogeys enabled to turn with one point, despite carding a one-over 36 for the front nine.

He got into his work with relish on the homeward nine, and he made five birdies without dropping a shot as he made 10 points.

He was just four points behind the leader, Mac Meissner, who led by one from his fellow-American JJ Spaun on 25. Three players were on 24 points and two were on 23. Schaper shared eighth with two others.

One point behind Schaper was his compatriot MJ Daffue, who added 11 points to his first-round haul. Casey Jarvis made five birdies and two bogeys for eight points, and with 17 at the halfway stage, he was in a share of 27th.

Louis de Jager, Garrick Higgo and Dylan Frittelli missed the cut.
