Robin Williams got himself inside the top 10 on Saturday with a three-under-par 67 in the third round of the Challenge Tour’s Black Desert NI Open presented by Tom McKibbin at Galgorm Castle Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Williams, the Sunshine Tour rookie of the year last season, is waiting to start his DP World Tour career next season in November, and is playing as many tournaments as he can in Europe to get ready for that. In the process, he looks set to lock up another path onto the main tour through his ranking on the Challenge Tour.

He started his round with a pair of pars and dropped a shot on the third, but after that, it was steady for Williams, with birdies on the fourth, seventh, 10th and 16th as he moved to five-under-par though 54 holes and a share of ninth.

However, he was a long way behind the lead of 15-under-par held by Joakim Lagergren of Sweden, who posted a nine-under 69 in the third round with an eagle and seven birdies. Lagergren led by one from Conor Purcell of Ireland, with Robin Sciot-Siegrist of France a long way back in third on none-under.

Wilco Nienaber had a one-over 71 in the third round to slip to one-under for the tournament and a share of 28th, while Louis Albertse – who is also waiting for his promotion to the DP World Tour – had a level-par 70 to remain at level-par in a share of 33rd.

Deon Germishuys had a two-over 72 to slip to one-over and a share of 37th.
