Adilson Da Silva opened his campaign in the Legends Tour’s Zambia Golf Legends Championship at Bonanza Golf Club just outside Lusaka with a four-under-par 68 on Friday to be in a share of third after the first round.

It was a bogey-free effort by the Brazilian who lives in South Africa – when he’s not dominating senior golf in Europe – and it put him two strokes off the lead which was held by Simon Khan of England. Khan led by one from Sweden’s Patrik Sjoland.

Khan, the 2010 BMW PGA Championship winner, had seven birdies and just a single bogey on his card. He made the turn in 34 strokes and accelerated on the back nine with four birdies in his final seven holes, including a two at the signature par-three 16th. Khan comes into the week in good form, having finished third two weeks ago at the Legends Tour’s flagship event, the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship.

Doug McGuigan, playing under a Scottish flag, opened with a three-under 69, and Andrew McLardy and Keith Horne each had 71s in the first round. Wallie Coetsee had a level-par 72 and Chris Williams signed for a one-over 73. James Kingston battled to a five-over 77.
