Christiaan Bezuidenhout will need a good closing round in the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship after his third round of two-over-par 74 on Saturday put him in a share of 43rd at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado.
South Africa’s top-ranked player made a double-bogey on the final hole, and, at 43rd in the 50-man field, he was projected to slip to 30th in the FedExCup rankings. Only the top 30 make it to the Tour Championship, so Bezuidenhout is on the bubble.
He made three birdies on the front nine but he came unstuck with three bogeys on the back nine ahead of the 18th. He pushed his tee shot into the right rough on the final hole, advanced his next just 115 yards to be 56 yards short, and then couldn’t get up and down from there after he left his third short just off the green.
