Aldrich Potgieter’s eight-under-par 63 wasn’t the low round of the day on Saturday, but he still put himself just one shot off the lead after the third round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Albertsons Boise Open presented by Chevron at Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, Idaho.
Potgieter, on 18-under for the tournament, carded nine birdies, an eagle, and three bogeys en route to eight-under 63 to move within one stroke of the lead; he is bidding to become the youngest multi-time winner in Korn Ferry Tour history. His eagle came on the 10th, as his 377-yard tee shot went over the green, from where he chipped in from 33 feet.
Ahead of him, two-time Korn Ferry Tour winner and Korn Ferry Tour Points List leader Matt McCarty maintained the outright lead for a second consecutive round at 19-under 194 and will carry a one-stroke lead into Sunday’s final round in his bid to earn the automatic promotion to the PGA Tour that comes with three victories.
Upon conclusion of this week’s tournament, the top 144 players on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List will be eligible to compete in the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation, the second of four season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Finals events.
Potgieter stands 27th on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List. The 19-year-old South African previously eclipsed 13-time PGA Tour winner Jason Day as the youngest winner in Korn Ferry Tour history with a victory at the 2024 The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at The Abaco Club this past January. The only player to earn two Korn Ferry Tour wins prior to turning 21 years old is Sungjae Im, who captured his second win at the 2018 WinCo Foods Portland Open at 20 years, four months, and 20 days of age; Potgieter will be 19 years, 11 months, and 12 days on Sunday.
