Bezuidenhout makes it to Tour Championship with closing 69 in Colorado

Christiaan Bezuidenhout’s closing three-under-par 69 on Sunday in the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship was enough to secure him a spot in the lucrative Tour Championship next week as he finished in a share of 33rd.

With only the top 30 on the FedExCup rankings going through to the Tour Championship, Bezuidenhout’s chances were looking shaky as he made 74-72-74 in the first three rounds at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado. He was projected to fall outside the top 30 from his position at 23rd ahead of the tournament.

But he closed with four birdies in a row from the 14th to the 17th to seal his place in the elite field after he had made two birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey through 11 holes. That final burst saw him slip to 29th on the FedExCup rankings, and that was enough to put him int to the East Lake field next week – albeit 10 shots behind the leader Scottie Scheffler at the outset.
