On a crowded leaderboard, Nicole Garcia might have been in a share of 21st after her second consecutive two-under-par 71 on Wednesday, but she was also just six strokes off the lead in the Ladies European Tour’s KPMG Women’s Irish Open.
It was a better round in the second round for Garcia, with just a single dropped shot. She made three birdies as she moved to four-under for the tournament, and she shared 21st with 14 other players.
Ursula Wikstrom of Finland fired back-to-back rounds of five-under 68 to lead at the halfway stage on the O’Meara Course at Carton House. Spain’s Sobron and Italy’s Fanali sat in second place just one shot behind the leader on nine-under-par. The duo both produced rounds of four-under 69. England’s Annabel Dimmock and Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini were in a share of fourth place on eight-under-par.
There were four players on seven-under, five on six-under and six on five-under, all ahead of Garcia.
The cut fell at level-par, and Nobuhle Dlamini made it on the number after a second round of level-par which included a triple-bogey seven on the 18th hole.
Cara Gorlei missed out on the weekend action by one shot, as did Stacy Bregman after rounds of level-par 73 and one-under 72 respectively. Casandra Alexander, no doubt weary from her superb showing in the AIG Women’s Open, could only manage a second round of level-par 72 to miss the cut by two.
