Deon Germishuys struggled to a closing two-over-par 74 on Sunday in the final round of the Challenge Tour’s Big Green Egg German Challenge powered by VcG at Wittelsbacher Golfclub in Neuburg an der Donau to finish in a share of ninth.
Germishuys, who had a share of the lead going into the final round, opened with a double-bogey seven on the par-five first hole, and although he pulled that back a little with a birdie on the fourth, he made bogeys on 10 and 16 with just a single birdie on the back nine coming on the 15th. He slipped to 11-under-par for the tournament.
That left him four shots behind the winner, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen of Denmark, who earned his immediate promotion to the DP World Tour with his third victory of the season. The Dane was one clear of countryman John Axelson and Scotland’s Daniel Young in a share of second.
Germishuys’ finish left him projected to stay in 14th place on the Road to Mallorca rankings and on course to regain his DP World Tour card as long as he stays inside the top 20 after the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final.
Robin Williams was also projected to earn one of those cards after he closed with a level-par 72 to finish in a share of 12th on nine-under-par. That boosts him to seventh and will give him yet another way of qualifying for the DP World Tour to add to his eligibility gained through finishing second on last season’s Sunshine Tour Order of Merit.
Louis Albertse had a closing two-under-par 70 and finished in a share of 44th. He finishes second on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit which also gives him a way on to the DP World Tour next season.
