It was a mixed bag for Nicole Garcia on Thursday as she made an eagle, six birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey in the first round of the Ladies European Tour’s La Sella Open in Alicante, Spain, on her way to a two-under-par 70.

With only five pars on her card, Garcia was nonetheless still up in a share of 17th, just three strokes off the top of a packed leaderboard.

Virginia Elena Carta of Italy, Germany’s Helen Briem and Elina Nummenpaa of Finland shared the lead on five-under-par. There were five players on four-under in a share of fourth, and eight players on three-under in a share of ninth. Garcia shared 17th with 14 other players.

Nobuhle Dlamini was in a share of 63rd on one-over-par 73, while Casandrsa Alexander and Lee-Anne Pace battled to shake off a little rust with a pair of three-over 75s. Cara Gorlei was on five-over 77 and Stacy Bregman on seven-over 79.
