Paula Reto closed with a six-under-par 66 on Sunday to finish in a share of 39th in the LPGA Tour’s Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
It was a strong finish for the South African after she followed up her opening round of five-under-par 67 with a three-over 75 and a one-over 73 in the second and third rounds. She made seven birdies and just one bogey in her final round to move to seven-under-par for the tournament.
She was a long way off the winning total of 23-under-par from China’s Ruoning Yin, who closed with a seven-under-par 65 in a dominant week which saw her win by one stroke from Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul. Korea’s Haeran Ryu was third on 21-under, and the players in a share of fourth were a long way back of that on 16-under-par.
Reto made three birdies on the front nine, with her bogey coming on the par-four ninth, but she didn’t put a foot wrong on the back nine with four birdies.
In a share of 39th with her was the other South African in the field, Ashleigh Buhai, who closed with a four-under-par 68.
