Jonathan Broomhead gained his second multi-win bonus of the year in the latest list released by the Official World Golf Ranking to leap 139 places to 350th in the world with his victory last week on the Sunshine Tour.
Broomhead won the Blue Label Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City to go with his victory in April in the Tour Championship delivered by the Courier Guy, and his second career-title in the Vodacom Origins of Golf Wild Coast tournament just last month.
His third Sunshine Tour title in the same calendar year meant he won a bonus of 70 percent of the total points available for the winner (2.798320), which gave him an additional 1.95882 points. The first multi-win bonus came at the Wild Coast where he gained an extra 1.01259 points, 60 percent of the 1.68765 for the win.
That makes his week at Sun City the best of his career so far, and his 139-place climb made him the 16th-ranked South Africa player according to the official list. It has been an incredible start to the 2024-25 Sunshine Tour season from Broomhead, who has missed two cuts in 14 starts, and been outside the top 10 just twice in the other 12 tournaments.
It was a quiet week for other South African players, with Robin Williams climbing to his career-high of 193rd after what was – for him – a ho-hum week during which he had a share of 16th in the Blue Label Invitational.
South Africa’s top golfer remains Thirston Lawrence, unchanged at 50th. He was one ahead of Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who was also unchanged at 51st.
The man who slipped out of the top 25 South Africans according to the official list was Louis de Jager, demoting by Broomhead’s spectacular rise.
