A third round in the 60s helped Shaun Norris into a share of fourth on Saturday ahead of the closing round of the Japan Golf Tour’s Dunlop Phoenix Open at Phoenix Country Club in Miyazaki, Japan.

Norris made four birdies and a bogey on his way to a three-under-par 68 in the third round, to go with his opening 66 and his second round of 67. At 12-under-par for the tournament, he was in a share of fourth with emerging PGA Tour star Akshay Bhatia.

Up front, another American, Max McGreevy had a six-under 65 to move to 20-under-par and a yawning six-stroke gap to second. Japan’s Ryutaro Nagano had a 64 to move to 14-under, and he was one clear of 2021 Masters champion, Hideki Matsuyama.

Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent was one of three players one stroke behind Norris and Bhatia on 11-under in a share of sixth.

McGreevy stormed ahead of his rivals with a nine-under 62 in the second round.
