Christo Lamprecht has climbed 103 places on the latest Official World Golf Ranking list after his fourth place finish in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Bahamas Great Abaco Classic to move to 346th place as he beds down his early career as a professional.
It’s a career-high placing for the former world number one amateur, and his second-best showing in terms of world rankings points after his share of second in last December’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. It moves him to 18th on the list of the top 25 South Africans as determined by the official rankings system, and it takes him inside the world’s top 400 for the first time.
Lamprecht’s was not the biggest jump by a South African on the official rankings, however: Daniel van Tonder was up a massive 144 spots to 242nd after his win on the Sunshine Tour and HotelPlanner Tour co-sanctioned SDC Open at Zebula.
Van Tonder also gained himself some multi-win bonus points, as he was awarded 70 percent of the points available to the winner, which gave him another four. While he is a long way off his career-high of 71st, this latest victory is a high point in a long climb from outside the world’s top 500 where he found himself deep into last year.
Aldrich Potgieter also got a nice boost with his share of 16th in the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open, climbing 23 places and leapfrogging Louis Oosthuizen and Robin Williams into sixth spot amongst South Africa’s top 25.
South Africa’s top-ranked player, Thriston Lawrence, missed the cut on the PGA Tour, and slipped one place to 51st.
