Erik van Rooyen survived the tough weather conditions on Sunday with a closing four-under-par 68 helping him to a share of 40th in the PGA Tour’s Signature Event, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California.
It was a solid finish to the week for Van Rooyen, although his final round only lifted him into a share of 40th in the 80-man no-cut field. He finished on eight-under-par for the week with follow countryman Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who closed with his second one-under-par 71 of the weekend.
The tournament was won by Rory McIlroy, who carded a final-round 66 for a two-stroke victory over Shane Lowry. McIlroy trailed Sepp Straka by one stroke into Sunday, hung near the top of the leaderboard throughout the day and delivered a crucial blow with an eagle at the serpentine-like par-five 14th, set up by a booming drive and seven-iron to 26 feet. He added a birdie at the par-four 15th, set up by a flip wedge from the rough to four feet, and closed with three pars for his 27th PGA Tour title.
