Bogey-free closing 66 sees Bezuidenhout to 4th in WM Phoenix Open

A bogey-free closing round of five-under-par 66 on Sunday saw Christiaan Bezuidenhout finish in a share of fourth in the PGA Tour’s WM Phoenix Open in Scottdale, Arizona.

In the end, his tournament total of 16-under-par was eight strokes behind the winner after Thomas Detry of Belgium was a runaway winner for his maiden PGA Tour victory after his closing six-under-par 65 took him to 24-under, seven strokes clear of runners-up Michael Kim and Daniel Berger of the United States. Bezuidenhout shared fourth with Jordan Spieth.

Bezuidenhout made just a solitary birdie on his front nine, but he picked up for on his way home on the 10th, 13th, 15th and 17th. He missed a 37-footer for birdie on the stadium par-three on the 16th in front of a raucous crowd.

His performance saw him projected to climb 67 places on the FedExCup rankings to 43rd from 110th.
