An eagle on the 18th on Friday helped Jayden Schaper into third place heading into the weekend after the third round of the DP World Tour’s Magical Kenya Open presented by ABSA at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.

After making two early bogeys in his second round on the second and third, Schaper got it back to red figures with birdies on five, seven and 10. He dropped another on the 13th, but his eagle-three on the 18th took him to nine-under-par for the tournament through 36 holes.

That was five strokes off the lead, which was held by John Parry of England after his second round of six-under-par 65 took him to 14-under-par. He led by one from France’s Benjamin Hebert, who had a second round of five-under-par 66.

Christofer Blomstrand of Sweden was in fourth on eight-under after his bogey-free 68. There were five players on seven-under-par in a share of fifth, including Schaper’s countryman Jacques Kruyswijk. He had a five-under-par 66 which included an eagle, five birdies and two bogeys.

Deon Germishuys was one of four players on six-under-par in a share of 10th after he had a three-under 68.

Louis Albertse was a further shot back on five-under-par in a share of 14th after he had a two-under 69. Jovan Rebula was on four-under after his level-par 71 put him in a share of 22nd.

Ryan van Velzen was on two-under-par, and Thomas Aiken and Casey Jarvis were on one-under, and the last South Africans to make the cut.

Wilco Nienaber, Robin Williams, Justin Harding, Richard Sterne, Neil Schietekat, Louis de Jager and Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Follett-Smith all missed the cut.
