Robin Williams climbed 17 places on the latest Official World Golf Ranking list to 228th after his share of seventh in last week’s DP World Tour tournament, the Turkish Airlines Open.
His climb reversed a downward trend from his career-high of 193rd achieved after his share of 14th in the Blue Label Challenge at the end of October last year. It also made him the 11th-best South African player according to those rankings, as he jumped above Brandon Stone and Christo Lamprecht as Lamprecht remained unchanged in 235th and Stone dropped seven places to 251st.
There was a strong finish for Jayden Schaper in the same tournament as his closing 65 lifted him into a share of 29th. That kept him South Africa’s 10th-best player at 227th as he climbed five places.
Outside South Africa’s top 25, MJ Viljoen climbed 72 places to 863rd with his runner-up finish in the FBC Zimbabwe Open. That makes him South Africa’s 60th-best golfer according to the official rankings.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout remains South Africa’s top-ranked player after he fell two places to 65th. Erik van Rooyen is second at 67th, and Thirston Lawrence’s fall continues as his missed cut in the PGA Tour’s ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic saw him slip eight places to 86th.
