Jayden Schaper made six birdies on Saturday as he edged closer to the top 10 after the third round of the DP World Tour’s Italian Open at Argentario Golf Club in Monte Argentario, Italy.

He picked up three strokes on each of the nines on moving day, but dropped two shots on the seventh and the eighth on his way to a four-under-par 66. He moved to six-under through 54 holes, five strokes off the lead which was held by Frenchman Martin Couvra.

Couvra carded a third round of three-under-par 67 to move to 11-under as he pulled a shot clear of his nearest pursuers, Eugenio Chacarra of Spain and fellow-Frenchman Adrien Saddier.

Couvra will bid to become the first multiple winner of the year on the DP World Tour. The 22-year-old won the Turkish Airlines Open last month.

Justin Harding was the only other South African besides Schaper to make the cut. He had a one-over 71 in the third round to slip three places to a share of 72nd on two-over.
