Erik van Rooyen’s three-under-par on Saturday gave him eight points in the modified stableford format of the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship on the Old Greenwood course at the Tahoe Mountain Club.

His eagle, two birdies and a bogey left him just one point off the lead on 33 points in a format which gives five points for an eagle, two for a birdie and subtracts one for a bogey. Up front, the lead was shared on 34 points by Ryan Gerard of the United States and Rico Hoey of Puerto Rico after rounds of 66 and 69 respectively. Van Rooyen was a point clear of Tom Vaillant of France who was fourth.

Behind Van Rooyen, Jacques Kruyswijk set himself up for a finishing charge with a five-under-par 66 in the third round. He made an eagle, four birdies and a bogey on his way to a 12-point round. At 27 points, he was in a share of 10th. A top-10 finish in a PGA Tour event – this one is co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour – would be a good boost to his already good season.

Robin Williams heads into the final round in a share of 36th, and Dylan Frittelli in a share of 43rd.
