Louis Albertse made an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys on Thursday on his way to an opening round of four-under-par 67 in the HotelPlanner Tour’s Farmfoods Scottish Challenge.
Albertse started his round on the 10th hole, and was quickly into his stride with three birdies in his first five holes. The birdies dried up all the way through the turn, and he dropped his first shot on the third. He made his eagle on the par-five fifth, another birdie on the sixth, but dropped another shot on the ninth.
It was a crowded leaderboard, and he was six shots off the lead, which was held at 10-under by Will Enefer of England. Enefer was bogey-free and made two eagles and six birdies to lead by three from three players. There were three more on six-under, six on five-under, and 10 other players shared 14th with Albertse.
“It was a good day,” Enefer said of his course record. “I worked my way into the round and started to build some momentum and hit some good shots towards the end of the first nine.
“I carried that momentum into the back nine and finished really well in some poor conditions. I stuck to my processes and overall, it was a good day.”
Kyle Barker had a two-under 69 for a share of 43rd with, amongst others, Wilco Nienaber and Justin Harding. Lyle Rowe and Bryce Easton on one-under were the only other South Africans who carded opening rounds of under par. Daniel van Tonder was on level-par.
