Barend Botha dropped just a single shot on Thursday on his way to a five-under-par 65 in the opening round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Utah Championship at Ogden Golf & Country Club in Ogden, Utah.

Botha’s eagle, four birdies and that bogey on the 12th put him in a share of eighth. He was four shots off the lead which was held at nine-under-par by Étienne Papineau of Canada. The Canadian made two eagles and five birdies in his bogey-free start, and he led by one from American Taylor Montgomery.
