It was a top-10 finish for Daniel van Tonder on Sunday in the HotelPlanner Tour’s Dutch Futures at The Dutch in Spijk, Netherlands, but he slipped one place to 10th in the tour’s season-long rankings list to ninth.
Van Tonder made three bogeys in his closing round, and, with four birdies, his closing one-under-par 70 took him to seven-under-par for the week. That left him eight strokes behind the winner, Filippo Celli of Italy. Celli closed with a six-under 65 to reach 15-under as he won by two strokes from Hurly Long of Germany.
Van Tonder, who has won twice already this season on the tour, is almost certain to regain his status on the DP World Tour by finishing inside to top 20 of the HotelPlanner Tour’s Road to Mallorca standings at the end of the season – but a third win in the season would gain him immediate promotion.
Wilco Nienaber posted a closing three-under 68 to move to a share of 29th on four-under-par. He is currently 17th on the Road to Mallorca, and needs to play solidly for the remaining six tournaments and the Rolex Grand Final for the top 45 players on October 30.
